Michael O'Dell has been a musician most of his life. He founded The Groove Dojo out of a desire to teach much more than just "how to play drums." He believes that music is a vital part of life, and strives to instill a love for music and performance in all of his students. Mike is a longtime advocate for music education, and he thrives on sharing the journey of musicianship with his students and peers.

Located in LaGrange, KY, The Groove Dojo strives to teach our students how to be well rounded musicians, and to provide them with opportunities to put practice into action. Our community extends beyond drums to other instruments, musicians, and instructors. We want to be a place of learning, collaboration, growth, encouragement, and support.  Our goal is to embrace and share the lifelong journey of developing our craft, and to develop musically minded artists. We are intent on cultivating a close-knit community that encourages and supports each other.  We hope that once you start on this journey, you never utter the words "I used to play drums." 

• Teach students the fundamentals of drums by learning fun and engaging songs that they want to play.  We tailor our exercises and warm-ups to the songs we are learning.  
• Prepare students to have the confidence and ability to play whole songs, not just bits and pieces.
• Learn how to break down a song in a way that allows students to play within their current skill set, but also stays true to what the song requires.
• Develop a clear understanding of our role as drummers/musicians.
• Learn how to use a metronome and other technologies for practice, development, and to help lead a band.
• Learn how to tune, set up, and maintain our equipment.
